About me
I am an anthropologist, researcher, writer, and editor. I currently teach anthropology at City College of San Francisco. I previously taught anthropology and writing and rhetoric at Stanford University from 2013 to 2018. As a Fulbright and Mellon scholar, I earned my Ph.D. from Stanford University’s Department of Anthropology. My areas of focus include environmental studies, gender studies, comparative studies in race and ethnicity, and southern Africa. I have written numerous academic articles and published my first book, Steeped in Heritage: The Racial Politics of South African Rooibos Tea, in 2017. The book draws from more than a decade of research in a tea-growing region of rural South Africa. In addition to scholarly writing, I have also written for National Geographic News and National Geographic Kids news.
